Ingredients:
- 1 pound dried Great Northern beans
- 1 smoked ham hock
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 bay leaf
- 6 cups chicken broth
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions:
- Soak the Beans:
- Rinse the beans and place them in a large bowl. Cover with cold water and let them soak overnight.
- Prepare the Ham:
- In a large pot, submerge the ham hock in water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 1 hour. Remove the ham hock from the pot and set aside.
- Cook the Aromatics:
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until they are softened and fragrant.
- Combine the Ingredients:

- Take out the ham hock, shred the meat, and return it to the pot.
